Ms. Brashears' legal experience includes private practice as well as in-house practice as IP counsel with several start-up biotech companies in Silicon Valley. Her practice includes over fifteen years of legal experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications primarily in the medical device and biotechnology arts. Additionally, she has substantial experience and knowledge in semiconductor and computer arts, and has personally drafted over 180 original patent applications. Ms. Brashears has extensive experience conducting due diligence reviews, drafting patent validity and infringement opinions, and directing litigation proceedings. She has wide-ranging experience drafting and negotiating license agreements, research collaboration agreements, and joint development agreements (with both universities and corporations), trademark registrations, litigation and copyright registrations. Ms. Brashears has established legal departments and implemented IP management procedures in three life science companies.

Ms. Brashears graduated summa cum laude from the University of Nebraska College of Law where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Nebraska Law Review. Ms. Brashears received her undergraduate degree in biology from Missouri Western State College in 1981 and was a member of the President's Honor Roll, and received a National Science Foundation Grant for Research in 1980. Additionally, she did graduate work in Molecular Biology at the University of Houston and was a member of the Phi-Kappa-Phi Honor Society, and worked for five years in biomedical research at Baylor University and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
